ingredients of life

the vision

The Plate & The Reel emerges as a multilayered platform for Author, Elaine M. Bapis. At the Intersection of food and film, connecting to culture and identity, P&R takes an inside look at how these two entities are deeply embedded in our cultural lives and identity.

With a lifetime of experiences—by way of writing and publishing—the author sees these essential ingredients as powerful tools shaping us as individuals and a society.

“we are all given the ingredients of happiness, but the mixing is left to ourselves.”

— Ethel M. Dell

Elaine M. Bapis, author, lifetime educator, board member, and school co-founder, interjects and juxtaposes a lifetime of experiences in works about cultural history and the construction of identity with an emphasis on film as evidence for historical research.

The years of 1965-1975 in film are particularly interesting to the author for the focus on iconic Westerns and (re)construction of western identity amidst tremendous cultural changes in American society.

This lifetime interest in studies rich in culture, connection, and tradition is interwoven in everyday life. Living in an aesthetic-centered world of art, travel, and lifestyle, Elaine explores intersections of food, film, culture, and identity.

The Plate & The Reel launches a platform for the author to explore, share, and promote these new concepts.
